Autism and ADHD

While a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by itself may not necessitate a need for care, often these conditions can be present alongside a multiple of mental or physical health requirements.

In these cases, Komplex Community is equipped to put together a personalised care plan which meets the person’s needs, for example, around communication. We work alongside our property partners to facilitate an environment in which the individual can thrive, living well within the community. Our nurse-led approach to care means we are able to ensure a holistic approach to the individual’s requirements – focusing on their wishes and needs, as well as those of their loved ones and their wider team such as social workers, GPs or consultants.

What Our Clients Say About Us

Because we’re a clinically-led service, we are able to support all of the health needs of our clients, whether these are physical, mental, or emotional. A dedicated support team works with each client, and they undertake mandatory and person-specific training before beginning to work with the person, meaning they have an in-depth understanding of all their care needs. They’re overseen by a service co-ordinator for each client, as well as our nursing team of qualified RGNs and RMNs.

We are experts in working with clients who have a huge range of communication needs, from those with no additional communication needs to those who are entirely non-verbal. The assessments we undertake prior to taking on a new package will include an extension exploration of how best to communicate with them – whether they use Makaton signs, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) cards, BSL (British Sign Language), require social stories to help explain activities to them, or any other methods of verbal or non-verbal conversation.

We don’t simply look to meet the basic needs such as housing and medication, we want to enhance the person’s quality of life and outcomes as far as possible – and that’s why we focus on putting together a schedule of activities personalised for each client. Whether they want to spend time outside exploring nature, join community groups or the local gym, or simply enjoy arts and crafts – each client’s weekly plan will reflect the activities they most enjoy and which will help enhance their wellbeing and enjoyment of each day. A comprehensive risk assessment is, naturally, put in place to ensure safety is paramount for the client, their support team, and the wider community.
